Geo Dipa needs $ 600 million for the development of two geothermal power plants

JAKARTA: PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero), requires additional capital amounting to U.S. $ 600 million to develop two units of geothermal power plant (PLTP), each of which are located in the Dieng and Patuha.

Director of Geo Dipa Energi Praktimia Semiawan said if the status of a state-owned company, Geo Dipa more freely seek funding for the development of PLTP hers.

"In the future we will develop two units of each one in Patuha and Dieng, each of which need additional capital of about U.S. $ 300 million, so a total of U.S. $ 600 million," he said on the sidelines of a hearing with Commission VII- House of Representatives (23/05/2011).

Geo Dipa currently has geothermal field in Dieng, Central Java, with a potential installed capacity of 400 MW but only 60 MW (PLTP Dieng Unit 1). As of 13 production wells there, there are eight wells that have been used.

Besides in Dieng, Geo Dipa is also currently developing a geothermal field in Ciwidey Patuha, West Java which is currently in the bidding process. Status PLTP Patuha Unit 1 (1x55MW) currently has nine production wells wells.

On the same occasion the Minister of Finance Agustin Martowardojo explained to the House Commission VII associated with the implementation of the grant 67% stake Geo Dipa Energi worth Rp443, 525 billion which is granted by PT Pertamina (Persero) to the Government of Indonesia.

Thus, the government now becomes the majority shareholder Geo Geo Dipa Dipa so that status changes to SOEs.

Geo Dipa status changes, continued Agus, will improve the company's ability to obtain financing from third parties such as banks, investors, loan G to G and other commercial financing.

"The purpose of PMN (State Capital) to Geo Dipa, it is hoped there will be a projected increase in assets and earnings Geo Dipa that could be better by 2015 than if Geo Dipa not so state because there are limitations to get the bank facility," he explained. (*)
