A Chinese company plans to invest US$3 billion in infrastructure projects in East Java province, Governor Soekarwo said on Wednesday.
Executive Vice President Secretary of China Foundation for Desertification Control (CFDC) Zhang Jian Hong and President of Grand Overseas Economic Development (GOED) Co. Ltd Qi Chunsheng signed an investment agreement with second assistant for economic development to the East Java governor Hadi Prasetyo and Head of the East Java Provincial Investment Board (BPM) Warno Harisasono in Beijing on Monday, Soekarwo said in a press statement.
"I believe that the Chinese companies will realize the investment proposal soon and the amount may increase further," said Soekarwo in his capacity as chief of the East Java economic mission to China. The governor said he would report the signing of the investment agreement to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Radjasa in Jakarta.
"What is important is that in the report we will propose there will not be a tender for construction of the infrastructure projects using investment fund."
The infrastructure projects will include construction of 4.4 km long runway at Juanda Airport, and 22-km toll road connecting Bunder to Legundi, and hazardous and toxic waste treatment unit at industrial estate.
Zhang Jian Hong said his side would appoint China Yenta affiliated to GOED to carry out infrastructure projects in East Java. Qi Chunsheng meanwhile said he would soon fly to East Java to hold more serious talks with local officials about technical matters including a field survey.(antara)
