IAEA: Indonesia Ready to Build Nuclear Power Plant

Minister of Research and Technology (Research and Technology) of the Republic of Indonesia, Suharna Surapranata said that Indonesia was ready to build a nuclear reactor. This was disclosed when he attended the International Science Research and Technology International Conference On Materials Science and Technology, in Puspiptek Complex, Serpong, Tangerang, on Wednesday (20/10/10)

Research and Technology also revealed that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) already recognize the readiness of Indonesia. The same thing is also mentioned by Anhar Riza spaceman, Basic and Applied Research Deputy National Nuclear Energy Agency (NNEA/BATAN). Readiness was assessed in pre project and project readiness. So far, Indonesia has prepared the pre-project level.

"So far, Indonesia has received recognition pre preparedness project in building a nuclear reactor. Not to get the readiness of the project because the project itself has not run," Add Arhan spaceman, the staff of the National Atomic Energy Agency.

Assessment of preparedness of pre project that includes several fields, consists of the readiness of resources, economic ability and readiness of the place. About the readiness of such places, should see some parameters such as natural disasters, earthquakes and flooding potential. Some areas have been used as alternative options, such as Banten, Belitung and Kalimantan.

While relating the nuclear reactor building itself still can not be determined, because still to be discussed with several parties. Clearly, Indonesia is competing with several countries for the construction of this reactor. Other countries expressed the IAEA is ready to build a nuclear reactor is Jordan and Vietnam. (*)
