Ratification for Statuta Roma of International Criminal Court (ICC)

Indonesia has ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). In the Rome Statute mandates for the establishment of the International Criminal Court (ICC / International Criminal Court).

Ratification is considered very important, in addition to already be on the agenda National Action Plan on Human Rights in 2004-2009, it is also intended to complement and enhance the quality of national law in the protection of human rights in Indonesia. It also
  •      Eliminating various impunity,
  •      Overcome the weakness of national legal systems,
  •      Provide protection to witnesses and victims.
More should be observed is, that ratified the Rome Statute will provide benefits such as:
  •      Preference rights active in the International Criminal Court,
  •      The opportunity to be part of the organ of the International Criminal Court,
  •      Accelerate the process of legal reform in Indonesia,
  •      The effectiveness of the national legal system,
  •      Increased efforts to protect human rights,
  •      Stabilization diplomatic position.
The ratification provide consequences to national law. Expected some adjustment measures will be carried out after the ratification of the Rome Statute. Amendments to a number of laws in Indonesia is a consequence of the ratification of the Rome Statute, including: Criminal Code, Criminal Procedure Code human rights law, and the law of human rights courts.
