Indonesia needs more investment amount U.S.$ 96 billion for electricity infrastructure

JAKARTA-Indonesia needs more investment of U.S. $ 96 billion for built new power supply to support MP3EI program until 2020.

Jarman, Director General of Electricity Ministry of Energy, said that until 2020, Indonesia requires an additional 55,345 MW of electricity.

"Indonesia needs 55,345 MW by 2020, or about 5535 MW annually. Till 2020, required an additional investment of U.S. $ 96 billion or U.S. $ 9.6 billion per year," he said on the sidelines of the Indonesia International Infrastructure Conference and Exhibition 2012, Wednesday (08/29/2012).

There is also the need for additional electricity for 55,345 MW by 2020 it amounted to 31,370 MW will be prepared by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) and the remaining 23,975 MW will be done by the private sector.

Overall, according Jarman, to support  MP3EI program (2011-2025) Indonesia needs additional new power to 90,000 MW. By the end of 2025, the installed capacity of the national government's count could reach 135,000 MW.

At present, the installed capacity of about 41,000 MW nationwide. The growth of national power is estimated at 8.46% per year.

Jarman asserted in the future, PLN will not build a new plant-based fuel oil. PLN encouraged improving the energy mix by reducing fuel and increase the use of renewable energy.

"We no longer build power new fuel, now living the existing course," he said.

Jarman acknowledged the greatest demand for electricity is still on the island of Java that is up to 75%, then 15% on the island of Sumatra, and 10% on other islands.

There is also the electrification ratio Indonesia is currently 73.7% and is targeted to increase to 86% by the end of 2016. (*)
